During this year’s shareholders’ event, Sam’s Club associates, together with Coca-Cola and the USO provided 3,556 care packages for U.S. troops deployed in Afghanistan. Each care package included items such as hydration pouches, snacks and hand sanitizer – rare treats for those serving in overseas military outposts. The event kicked off the Coca-Cola and Sam’s Club “Pour on the Love” summer donation drive supporting the USO Care Package Program and service members worldwide.

As a founding corporate partner, Coca-Cola has helped the USO bring the comforts of home to military service members since 1941. This year, the Coca-Cola and Sam’s Club team identified the opportunity to collaborate and engage associates from across the country as volunteers.

Sam’s Club associates rose to the occasion, helping pack thousands of USO bags before the day’s end. “I love being able to give back because the troops give up so much to protect our country,” said Sam’s Club associate Noah Derezotes.

Stationed at the front of the assembly line, USO Care Package Manager and veteran Ben Stanislov explained the impact care packages can have. “When you’re deployed, a small something from back home means a lot.”

Some associates, like Jenna Laird from Indianapolis, went through the care package assembly line multiple times, making two to three bags per trip. “I like to support our military as much as possible,” said Laird, whose father is a military veteran.
