Helping Small Business Owners Grow, Save and Prosper to Achieve Economic Mobility
Sam’s Club and the Sam’s Club Giving Program believe that small businesses are the building blocks of America. When small businesses succeed, economic growth and job creation follow. Through the Sam’s Club Giving Program and the Walmart Foundation, we extend our commitment to small business prosperity by awarding grants to national nonprofit organizations that help to increase access to capital and better borrower education for underserved business owners across the U.S.
In 2015, the Sam’s Club Giving Program announced a five-year, multi-million dollar program, the Small Business Economic Mobility initiative, established to:
- Enable nonprofit Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI’s) to make 5,000 loans to underserved small businesses with focus on women-, minority- and veteran-owned businesses with fewer than 20 employees
- Unlock $100 million in new capital from non-bank, community lending resources to low- and moderate-income small business owners
- Support 28,000 jobs in the small business community
- Reach one million underserved small business owners with education on responsible lending and better borrower practices
Serving small business owners as members for more than 30 years, Sam’s Club is uniquely positioned to support small business prosperity through business initiatives, philanthropy, research and stakeholder engagement. The Small Business Economic Mobility initiative ladders up to The Walmart Foundation’s goals to create economic opportunities for individuals globally.
Since 2010, Sam’s Club and the Sam’s Club Giving Program have provided more than $18 million to nonprofits to help local business-- from pizza shops to pet care centers to service providers -- grow and realize their dreams. This has resulted in more than 20,000 business owners receiving, assistance accessing financing, mentorship, training, marketing and more.
