In-club testing and treatment to members and the public available
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Sept. 19, 2016 – Sam’s Club is providing even greater value for its members and the public by offering pharmacist administered rapid diagnostic tests for influenza (the flu) and streptococcal infection (strep) at all 38 clubs with a pharmacy in Michigan and Minnesota.
Sam’s Club flu and strep tests are available on a walk-in basis and are available for ages eight and up. In the event that a flu or strep test yielded a positive result, Sam’s Club pharmacists are also able to initiate drug therapy based on clinical protocols maintained with licensed providers. Sam’s Club flu tests cost $36, while strep tests cost $27.*
The launch of rapid diagnostic testing for flu and strep at Sam’s Club Pharmacies in Michigan and Minnesota is further evidence of the evolving health care landscape and the increasing importance of pharmacy-based care.
“Health and wellness is a top priority for Sam’s Club and we are constantly striving to find ways to make health care more accessible,” said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam’s Club Consumables & Health and Wellness. “We are proud to add this new offering for patients and feel confident that this will provide value to our members and the communities that we serve by giving them a quick, convenient, and affordable way to get diagnosed and treated for these two common conditions.”
Sam’s Club also focuses on preventative care. Sam’s Club offers flu shots to both members and the public, including vaccinations for children eight years of age and above. Specifically Sam’s Club offers the standard three strain trivalent flu shots, four strain quadrivalent flu shots, and high-dose flu shots specifically designed for seniors 65 years and older.** The company also helps its small business members prepare for the flu season by providing in-office flu vaccinations to their employees, recognizing the importance of a healthy and productive workforce.
Sam’s Club pharmacies also provide other walk-in immunizations to patients eight years of age and above in a simple, quick, and private process. Vaccinations offered provide protection against diseases such as pneumonia, shingles, whooping cough, meningitis, and HPV. Many vaccinations required for travel are also available.
Two out of the last three years, Sam’s Club Pharmacy was ranked “Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Mass Merchandiser Pharmacies” by J.D. Power. Sam’s Club Pharmacy also received the highest score in the prescription ordering/pick-up process; non-pharmacist staff; and pharmacist study factors within its segment.***
