July 31, 2023

BENTONVILLE, Ark., July 31, 2023 — Sam’s Club®️, a division of Walmart Inc. and a leading membership warehouse club, and TechBridge Inc., an Atlanta-headquartered technology nonprofit, are teaming up to provide a no-cost Java and cloud computing skills development and job training initiative through TechBridge’s Technology Career Program (TCP). The Sam’s Club sponsored cohort will select 25 individuals in the metro Atlanta, Georgia, market to participate in the 16-week virtual program, which kicks off August 21.

As part of TechBridge’s mission to break the cycle of generational poverty through the innovative use of technology, TCP equips adults from economically disadvantaged households with the technological, financial, and professional skills they need to compete for jobs in the tech industry. While the part-time, 16-week virtual program primarily focuses on in-demand technology skills, it also provides practical career training such as decision-making, respectful communication, technical interviewing and resume writing, helping participating scholars prepare for sought-after software engineering roles. Upon graduating, participants receive six months of career coaching and mentorship to ensure they feel supported in their career pursuits and journey.

The TCP program provides the skills and support needed to succeed in software engineering and developer roles while also providing a path to economic mobility, financial stability and lifelong success. Launched in 2018, the TCP program has graduated 721 scholars to date.

“We know Sam’s Club as one of the most recognizable names in American retail. We are so thrilled the company has partnered with our organization and made a true commitment to helping alleviate generational poverty through the support of our Technology Career Program (TCP). Sam’s Club employs 100,000 associates in the U.S. and Puerto Rico and 75% of salaried manages began as hourly associates. This demonstrates that Sam’s Club knows the value of providing career opportunities, and support of our TCP program is another unique way to do just that,” said Barbara Augustin, chief people and operating officer at TechBridge.

With hundreds of thousands of employers nationwide searching for employees with in-demand technology skills, the experience and knowledge gained from participation in the TCP program offer scholars an entry point into the world of technology and will introduce the key principles and practices that participating scholars can take with them throughout their careers.
